EYE EXAMINATIONS:
We recommend a yearly eye exam beginning at 6 months of age. Vision screenings that are performed by a school nurse or your employer are not the same as Comprehensive Eye Exams. In the first part of the exam we do testing to determine your exact prescription for the most comfortable, clearest possible vision. The latest in computer and laser technology is used to give an accurate examination. In the second part of the exam our Doctors and staff will do a complete health check of your eyes including eye pressures, screening visual fields, a dilated exam of the back of the eye and a microscopic evaluation of the front of the eye. We will be testing for diseases such as glaucoma that have no early symptoms but could lead to vision loss if not detected early. We also offer retinal digital imaging frequently referred to OPTOS to serve as a base line and to better document the health of your eye. Our Doctors are co-managers for refractive surgery.
Your experience with us will begin as you walk in the door and are greeted by our receptionists, May, Allison and Joan who will welcome you and determine the best way that we can serve your eye care needs.
Next you will meet one of our highly trained Assistants and Contact Lens Technicians, Carol, Nipa, Sarah, Caren and Dana, who will begin your exam. They will begin the evaluation of your eyes before you see the doctor.
Next you will meet one of our Optometrists, Drs. Loren or Linda Azevedo. The Doctor will do a thorough two-part exam with you during which they will explain exactly what they are seeing so that you will be educated about the health of your eyes. The exam will begin with testing that will determine your exact prescription for distance, reading and intermediate distances. Next the Doctor will do a complete eye health examination, including an analysis for glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts, and a dilated exam or a review of a digital image of your eye. For contact lens wearers, the Doctor will do a third part of the exam that will include checking the health of your eye for contacts and a contact lens prescription.
At this point the Doctor will be joined by one of our Opticians, Erin, Maria, Jen, Nicki, Elizabeth or Rebecca. The Opticians are experts in eyewear selection, measurement, adjustment and repair. Together with the Doctor, they will review the results of your exam, and then they will help explain your insurance and answer any questions you have about your eyewear, and help you order glasses. They take pride in providing the best of frames and lenses, including the new iZon custom high definition lenses.
You will complete your exam with our Benefit Coordinators, Sandy, Dana and May who will help you to utilize your vision care and medical health insurance plans for the maximum benefit.
CONTACT LENS SERVICES:
Contact lens technology is constantly advancing and the Doctors at A to Z Eye Care will make the recommendations that will be healthiest for your eyes and give you the best vision possible! Our Doctors are able to fit contact lenses to correct all types of vision (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia). We also fit Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT) lenses.
Disposable Soft Contact Lenses are comfortable even upon first insertion because they are large and flexible. Non-Disposable Gas Permeable Lenses enable superb vision with minimal maintenance. New computer generated NDGP designs are easier to care for and are less expensive over time than soft lenses. You will work with the Doctor and Contact Lens Technician to determine which design best suits your needs.
Contact Lens Initial Fitting
In addition to a comprehensive eye examination the Doctor and Contact Lens Technician need to evaluate the health of your corneas and analyze the tear film layer to ensure comfortable lens wear annually. On the first day of a fitting the contact lens professional will evaluate lens alignment and vision with trial contacts. The training process includes insertion and removal as well as understanding of cleaning and care of the lenses.
Contact Lens Re-Fittings
A re-fitting is recommended every few years to take advantage of new technology. A refitting is the same as previously explained but with a reduced fee since patients have had success with contact lenses and understand handling and care. The reduced fee reflects less time needed. Patients will be fit with new lenses while in the office. Necessary follow up appointments will be made to ensure that you can achieve the best vision and most comfortable fit possible.
Annual Contact Lens Evaluations
An annual contact lens evaluation is necessary to ensure continuing optimal fit and clear vision. Changes in lens powers and renewal of the one year contact lens prescription are the benefits of this contact lens evaluation in addition to your annual eye examination.

Eye exams for children are extremely important. Early identification of a child’s vision problem can be crucial because children often are more responsive to treatment when they are diagnosed early. Whether your child is 6 months old or in elementary school, we will design the perfect visit in order to perform a complete Eye Examination. It is remarkable what vision concerns can be evaluated on infants and children with the specific tools and techniques available in our office. Please inquire about our complimentary eye exams today!
Our Eye Exams are conducted to detect the possible presence of these types of eye problems commonly found in young children:
- Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)
- Strabismus (Misalignment of eyes)
- Convergence Insufficiency (Inability to maintain alignment of both eyes for correct focus as distant objects move nearer.)
